I had to do this. Breaking the rules was necessary because there are no cool readathons going on this week (or the next few weeks, for that matter). By “cool,” I just mean readathons that speak to me in a way that makes sense. Needless to say, I am stealing the prompts of the O.W.Ls to guide me.
(A joke bubbled through my throat and fizzled into nothing. You missed it. It was good, too. Let’s carry on).
O.W.Ls Subject #1 Charms
Two books for this challenge. First, I have to read Well of Ascension by Brandon Freaking Sanderson. Listen, I am genuinely stressed out by this book because it’s eerier than the first book. Having difficult things going on in my life right now intensifies the hesitation to read about stressful things. Who knows. Maybe I’ll actually find Vin and Elend’s problems comforting.
Another ambitious plunge is to give Kate Elliot’s Cold Magic a try. Again, this is very much a dream scenario where I can manage my energy and my time well enough to read steadily.
O.W.Ls Subject #2 Divination
It’s been 90 years and I am still hesitant to see what happens in Eye of the World. No more. I mean business now. Daunting as it may be, I need to keep at it. The strange thing is that I actually like the story but it takes a bit of getting used to.
O.W.Ls Subject #3 Herbology
Storm Front by Jim Butcher has a word related to nature in its title. Plus, I need to get going with this series because I have heard so many good things. Moreover, this book is so pure; it actually has a summary on its back. That’s how old it is.
O.w.lS sUBJECT #4 Transfiguration
Okay, I know this is a stretch. Alanna by Tamora Pierce centers around a girl who dresses up as a boy. I want to see if I like this book to gauge if Pierce is for me or not.
o.w.lS sUBJECT #5 mUGGLE sTUDIES
I have a bunch of self-help books to read. My hope is to remind myself to implement self-care habits in my life, particularly when things are rough (like they are right now).
If you were to take the O.W.Ls, which subjects would you dedicate time to study? Any studying ideas for certain lessons come to mind? Share in the comments!
