Last Week of August 2017: TBR and Planning

Welcome to the last week of August, 2017. I thought it’d be a good idea to share my TBR and planning for the week, since I have been feeling off for a while. My first announcement is: guess who is still reading for the Reading Quest challenge? NOT ME.

To me, I’d rather read what I like rather than “compete.” I was not really interacting with anyone, anyway. Even though I try to socialize, it’s not really feeling good to talk much. So, I’ll read what I like.

sequels:

Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder is definitely on my TBR for this week. I flew through the first book (Poison Study). Yelena is clever, resourceful, and driven. It is hard not to like her, honestly, and even more important is how imperfect she is–in a completely non-generic way.

The Fallen Kingdom by Elizabeth May. I’m scared to read this one, more than the usual anxiety I have about starting books.

What is important about reading these two books quickly is seeing representation for (sexual) abuse survivors like me. My emotional stitches have been yanked open. And, I am in need of witnessing people become heroes in their own tales.

Loose Ends

Once upon a time, I was an innocent little baby, who was trying to read freaking The Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It’s been 84 years and I am still not done. It’s such a slow read, with no humor. When I read it, I try so hard to connect with Katsa and Po, but to no avail. So..after much consideration, I decided to give the trilogy to my brother (where books are read and then donated, hopefully).

On a more fun note, I am nearly halfway through The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue . As someone with psychosomatic seizures, you have no idea how much I teared up at the epilepsy rep in this book. Heck yes. I am enjoying that book. Thank goodness.

Going rogue

I may pick up more books from these past book hauls (July and August) before the month ends. But, I’m taking it easy from now on when it comes to my reading.
