The Television Shows Tag

While watching Ginger Reads Lainey’s YouTube channel, I saw this awesome tag. It is the Television Shows tag, which will give you some insight on shows that I (dis)like.

1. Favorite shows?

Let’s see. I am quite fond of the show Merlin. For some meta humor, Community is awesome. I’d recommend it just for Abed Nadir. BBC’s Sherlock is a nice thriller mystery that is humorous at times, too.  BBC’s Musketeers is fantastic. The Good Place was a fun show on Netflix.  Another Netflix hit for me was Jane the Virgin.

2. Favorite genre?

I like shows with a touch of magical realism or outright fantasy.

3. Least favorite show?

The Big Bang Theory never made sense to me. Oh, and How I Met Your Mother is not my jam.

4. Most rewatched show/favorite show to binge watch?

Pushing Daisies is pure love and happiness. Forever, it will be my dearest show.

5. Do you prefer watching things week-by-week or binge-watching?

Neither. I prefer watching at my own pace.

6. Favorite television characters?

Irene Adler in Sherlock. Emerson Cod (Pushing Daisies). Chidi (The Good Place). Abid Nadir in Community.  Simon Lewis and Maia Roberts on Shadowhunters. Octavia and Bellamy Blake in The 100.

7. Favorite television ships?

This is a rather unfortunate aspect of my life: I have shipped some stuff that wasn’t ever going to be canon. In other words, queer baiting worked on me too well. Here are some of my most notable ships. Sherlock/John (also known as Johnlock). Merlin/Arthur. Actually, let me say that I am also trash for Lancelot/Gwen.  Bellamy/Clarke. Chidi/Eleanor in The Good Place.

8. Show you could never get into?

How I Met Your Mother was hard for me to get into (I never did). I kept trying to watch it, too (for two seasons!) so the agony continued for a long time. I did try Penny Dreadful and was like, “Yeah…no. Can’t handle this.” Friend grinds my gears really bad, too. I just don’t like any of the friends. Fraser and Seinfeld are other kind of staples of television that I was just like, “Nope. Don’t get it.” Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers…so many things I tried and did not click with.

9. Show you fell out of love with?

For a while there, I was trying to watch things that made me uncomfortable. Mostly, I have this assumption that if I am not hurting, then I am not being challenged as a person. Until very recently, this was my approach to books, movies, music, life experiences. Everything had to hurt. So. Here are some of the shows that I tried to keep watching even when they triggered me.

Pretty Little Liars, Bates Motel, Sense 8.

10. Cancelled too soon?

Pushing Daisies.

11. Guilty pleasure show?

That 70’s Show has some nice episodes. I don’t know what people are getting shamed for watching these days. Zero fudges given, though (or, at least, that’s what I am trying to live by).

12. What are you currently watching?

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and I am supposedly starting Gilmore Girls soon. Oh, and I am halfheartedly watching The 100 (it makes me nervous, in general, but I am kind of invested at this point. So…I take breaks). New Girl is another one that I am watching. Mostly, I haven’t been watching TV in a while. I fall out of love with it sometimes.

  1. Merlin! I love that show.

I could not get into Penny Dreadful either. I might give it another shot down the line as we have it on dvd, the first season, but not any time soon.

    1. I like the main lady in Penny Dreadful. She was in the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children movie and she did such a good job. But, Penny Dreadful is way too intense for me. I hope you do like it, when/if you watch it. Merlin is awesome. I have the whole series on DVD. x

  2. I really need to do this tag! I love chatting about shows 😀 I mean, I will try for all my answers to not be “The 100” but I can’t make any promises of course. Be glad you didn’t give too much of your time to How I Met Your Mother, it would have disappointed you. I gave up on The Big Bang Theory too, it got so stupid. Maybe it was always stupid and I got smarter, who knows 😉 And Seinfeld, Frasier, Family Guy, AGREED. Hated all of those.

Where are you at with The 100? I can let you know if it’s safe to proceed for an episode or two 😀 How’s Kimmy Schmidt? I tried to watch it once but didn’t get far, I think I wasn’t in a “funny” mood.

    1. I’m so early into The 100, it’s sad. But, I am worried about how soon deaths will happen. Episode 3 is where I am at right now. Help. Kimmy Schmidt is kind of an acquired taste. Like, it makes fun of its characters all the time. DO THIS TAG, SHANNON, DO IT!!! Maybe you’ll talk about more great shows that people will love. You clearly have good taste in things. *Waves the Shannon Rules banner*
